Dear Newlyweds

Since you have nicely, voluntarily and unanimously agreed to live in the marital community, and because you have knowingly and responsibly concluded that this way your lives will be better and more beautiful, we will not (as is sometimes customary!) read you articles of marital law.

However, the first article of the law states:

Marriage is a legally defined union between two people.

Even though this union is written in law, don’t let the law define your marriage, instead arrange and define it in your own terms with more care and consideration than any law can ever do.

It’s our wish that you enjoy your marriage. May it last a long time, may you make each other happy and live in the knowledge that today, you have accomplished one of the most important and beautiful things in your lives.

We advise you not to rush, and to use your words and feelings wisely. Don't spend them all at once. Instead, spread your love and mutual respect into every day of your life together.

The law says that the husband and wife are equal in marital union, but this can be expressed another way too: take responsibility for your actions and obligations and respect the other.

In today’s ceremony and act, you bring not only your mutual love but also your individual and common interests.

Remember that marriage cannot be the goal.

It can only be a vehicle of opportunity that enables you to accomplish your interests and goals easier and better.

So always keep building your relationship - expand its boundaries and do not let it get stale, lazy, fall asleep, or stop nurturing it.

Keep enriching your life together, fight for diversity, but be realistic and measured when determining your goals and desires, and be strong and persistent as you work together to achieve them.

Remember that you cannot concern yourself only with love. Love is only beautiful when it is unconditional and gives us strength to become more accomplished as individuals and members of society.

Be envious, not of each other, but of your marriage.

Look after it and defend it from all temptations, consider it precious to your happiness and destiny.

May this day be a happy beginning of your long and beautiful life together.
