Anatomy of Politeama

Site plan:
Shows the urban map of the city (Como) and the position of the Politeama building regarding other social, cultural and landmark significant buildings

State of the building:
Photos of the interior and exterior depict the state of the building and its current problems, while the original building plans show the layout.

New project plans:
Floor plans and section plans of the new design.

Main entrance:
There was a special emphasis put on the new entrance design, the space was expanded and seating was added to accommodate for the lack of public open space in front of the building. It became the windshield zone, a place somewhere between public and private. Additional hidden passageways were added suitable for people with disabilities.

Classrooms:
On the first and second floor, old hotel rooms were transformed into classrooms. The long dark hallway was opened up to the facade windows and the interior walls were offset to form a waiting area with a view into the classrooms.
