Green Block

The block area is situated near the town entrance and it's one of the first things seen upon driving into Novi Sad from the north. The plot is on a busy boulevard intersection and is occupied by tennis courts, parking and green area. In the vicinity is also a stadium, a large sports centre serving two universities nearby and a shopping centre.

The design was looking to maximise the available space and form routes between the surrounding buildings, which were found to be difficult to access. Additionally, it was important to take back the green area by using modern eco architecture. To form the layout of the block, the main pedestrian and vehicle routes were analysed, along with entrances of the surrounding buildings. The results of the analysis inspired a mostly pedestrian block with three main roads meeting at an intersection. The pedestrian path leads from the department store, gradually turns into a bridge and connects to the sports centre. The new place of socialisation is the intersection, a square with one part on the ground level and another at -1. The -1 level serves as an amphitheatre with a water surface and a stage in the middle, to be used for open-air concerts or lectures in the summer, or as an ice-skating rink in the winter.

Finally, all buildings in the block use smart facades, green roofs, rainwater reservoirs and have underground parking.
