The Renesso building is located in the province of Genova, Italy, surrounded by nature and close to a small village. It used to be a summer school for kids, but it was abandoned since the building started falling apart.

The revival of Renesso is based on the idea to turn it into a science centre with laboratories, classrooms and accommodation. The Renesso building is close to the Montemaggio building which is currently also not in use. By establishing a connection between the two buildings, more visitors would come to this area and use the natural environment around it. This would be achieved with a walking path and pavilions along the path, dedicated to each natural science discipline in Renesso. People using the walking path would be able to see the work of scientists in the pavilions, attend classes and buy products made by the laboratories.

The first part of the building’s revival is achieved by solving the problems of its structure: adding a steel frame to support the old beams. The new structure is multifunctional and has movable panels that can open up or divide the interior. The second part of the revival was adapting the building to the new function: laboratories were put into the basement, the ground floor was to serve as an open public area, the first floor was to host classrooms and the fourth floor was accommodation. The roof is dedicated to the modern age, incorporating solar panels, growing vegetation and a rain water collecting system, while the tower was turned into a museum dedicated to the history of Renesso.
