The project aim was to come up with a new facade design for the Lake Shore 910 building. Being a well-known landmark, it was important to ensure the building remains recognisable.
The new facade design addresses two problems inherent in the original glass facade of floor to ceiling windows: the trapping of the sun’s heat and the lack of privacy.
By analysing the typical floor plan and different room functions, the facade was sectioned into parts using brise soleil. The brise soleils are triangular in section and rotate along the facade, switching between different light blocking (from partial to complete) and creating the feeling of a dynamic and moving facade, thereby better controlling incoming light.
As an example of how the facade reacts to sunlight, a section was analysed in three different times of the day, in order to show how the rays disperse within the interior.
